Happy St.Patrick’s Day! We thought that it would be fun to share our family’s favourite green smoothies in celebration of the occasion. We drink a lot of smoothies at our house, as they are such an easy way to disguise vegetables that my kids wouldn’t normally eat, but will happily drink when combined with the sweetness of fruit. What’s great is that I can also pack in chia seeds, hemp seeds, bee pollen and anything else I have on hand to give it that added boost.
I make two green smoothie recipes that we all love – one that is more kid friendly with the addition of extra fruit and the other is heavier on the greens for the adults.
The adult version includes: kale, califia unsweetened vanilla almond milk (if you haven’t tried this almond milk yet, you absolutely MUST), almond butter, bee pollen, hemp seeds, chia seeds, cocoa and a banana. I am not being paid to say this, but Califia Farms has absolutely incredible products. Go check them out and you will never go back to just regular almond milk again.
While the kids version includes: kale, frozen strawberries, banana, pineapple bee pollen, hemp seeds, chia seeds and freshly squeezed orange juice. I use a magic bullet to make the smoothies (do people still do that?!?), but of course you can use your blender.
My kids absolutely love this smoothie and my youngest has been drinking it since she was 10 months old (minus the bee pollen). If you haven’t heard about adding bee pollen into a smoothie (or bee pollen in general) there are some amazing health benefits. Just to name a few, it’s a great energy enhancer, skin soother (i.e. if you suffer from eczema), anti-inflammatory, aids in digestion and immune booster. Definitely do your own research on it if you are interested as it may not be right for you and your family.
I hope that you enjoy this wonderful smoothie recipe and celebrating today.
